Subdwarfs are stars that lie below the main sequence on the HR diagram for their spectral type, meaning they are underluminous for their temperature. Hot subdwarfs (sdB, sdO) are evolved helium-burning stars that have lost their hydrogen envelopes; cool subdwarfs (sd M, sd K) are metal-poor main-sequence stars.
