Panspermia is the hypothesis that life, or the chemical precursors of life, can be transferred between planets or star systems via meteorites, comets, or dust grains. Lithopanspermia proposes microbial spores survive impact ejection and interplanetary travel; directed panspermia extends this to intentional seeding.
