The Galactic Habitable Zone is the annular region of a spiral galaxy where conditions are most favorable for complex life — far enough from the center to avoid lethal radiation and supernova rates, yet metal-rich enough for rocky planet formation. In the Milky Way it is estimated at roughly 4-10 kiloparsecs from the galactic center.
