The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is the relic thermal radiation from the early universe, emitted about 380,000 years after the Big Bang when the universe cooled enough for protons and electrons to combine into neutral hydrogen. Its near-perfect blackbody spectrum at 2.725 K and tiny temperature anisotropies encode information about initial conditions and cosmological parameters.
