Bright giants (luminosity class II) are intermediate between ordinary giants and supergiants in terms of luminosity and size. They are evolved massive stars with luminosities typically 1,000-10,000 times the Sun's, filling the gap on the HR diagram between class III and class Ia/Ib supergiants.
