Astrometry missions are space observatories designed to precisely measure the positions, distances, and motions of stars. Hipparcos (1989-1993) catalogued 120,000 stars; its successor Gaia is measuring nearly two billion, providing the foundation for galactic cartography and exoplanet searches.
