Chandrasekhar Limit

The Chandrasekhar limit (~1.4 solar masses) is the maximum mass a white dwarf can have while being supported by electron degeneracy pressure. If a white dwarf exceeds this mass, typically by accreting material, it undergoes a Type Ia supernova explosion.
