Wezen's absolute magnitude of −6.63 places it among the most intrinsically luminous stars catalogued, its light crossing about 1,607 light-years before reaching Earth at apparent magnitude 1.83. Designated Delta Canis Majoris, it lies in the constellation Canis Major as a yellow-white F-type star with a B–V colour index of 0.671. A southern declination of −26° sets it low for northern observers. That such a remote star remains clearly visible is a measure of its immense output, thousands of times the Sun's — a distant powerhouse trailing the far brighter but far nearer Sirius across the same constellation.
