Alhena

A white A-type star, Alhena marks the Gamma position in Gemini and additionally carries the Flamsteed number 24. Its neutral colour index of 0.001 is characteristic of the A class, whose surface temperatures render an essentially white hue with balanced blue and visual output. Alhena reaches apparent magnitude 1.93, making it one of the more prominent points in the constellation of the Twins. At an estimated distance of 109 light-years, its absolute magnitude of −0.70 indicates a luminosity moderately above that of typical white main-sequence stars. The combination of proximity and intrinsic brightness accounts for its steady visibility from both hemispheres, where it sits toward the feet of the Gemini figure.
