A yellow-white F-type star, Sargas carries a B–V colour index of 0.406 and appears at apparent magnitude 1.86. Designated Theta Scorpii, it is one of the brighter stars of the constellation Scorpius, lying about 300 light-years away. Its absolute magnitude of −2.96 marks an intrinsic luminosity well beyond the Sun's. Set at a southern declination of −42°, Sargas sits low for northern observers while standing high in the southern winter sky, where it helps trace the curved tail of Scorpius toward the star clouds of the central Milky Way.
