It is Beta Geminorum, and despite the Beta label it outshines Castor to rank as the brightest star of the constellation Gemini. This K-type star carries a B–V colour index of 0.991, consistent with its orange colour, and appears at magnitude 1.16. Its absolute magnitude of 1.08 indicates an intrinsic brightness modestly above the Sun's.
