Канопус

With an absolute magnitude of −5.5, Canopus is intrinsically among the most powerful stars catalogued on StarFYI, radiating far more energy than the Sun. That output explains how it holds second place in apparent brightness — magnitude −0.62 — despite lying 309 light-years from Earth. Designated Alpha Carinae, the star belongs to the far-southern constellation Carina, and its declination of −52° keeps it below the horizon for most northern observers. Canopus is an F-type star; its yellow-white tint is consistent with a B–V colour index of 0.164. The contrast between its great distance and its brilliance is a textbook illustration of how intrinsic luminosity, not proximity, governs the visibility of the sky's most remote bright stars.
