Color-Magnitude Diagram

A color-magnitude diagram (CMD) plots the apparent or absolute magnitude of stars against their color index (a proxy for temperature). CMDs of star clusters are essential tools for estimating cluster ages and distances through the position of the main-sequence turnoff.
