Radiating with an absolute magnitude of −6.52, the greatest intrinsic luminosity of any star treated here, Sadr appears at only apparent magnitude 2.23 because it lies extraordinarily far off — roughly 1,832 light-years, the most remote star in this group. It is a yellow-white F-type star and marks the Gamma position of Cygnus, at the very heart of the Swan where the constellation's cross-shaped figure intersects. Its colour index of 0.673 reflects the intermediate temperature of the F class. Embedded in one of the richest regions of the northern Milky Way, Sadr is a luminous supergiant whose faint appearance testifies chiefly to the immense distance across which its light reaches the Solar System.
