Aspidiske

With an absolute magnitude of −4.64, Aspidiske is one of the most intrinsically luminous stars in this group, though its distance of roughly 766 light-years reduces it to apparent magnitude 2.21 in Earth's sky. It carries the Iota designation of Carina, the Keel, in the far southern heavens. Classified as a white A-type star, it has a colour index of 0.189, marginally warmer than the neutral white standard. The wide gap between its powerful true output and its comparatively modest apparent brightness is a direct measure of the great distance separating Aspidiske from the Solar System, and places it among the more remote of the naked-eye stars of the southern sky.
