Supernova Remnant

A supernova remnant is the expanding shell of gas and dust ejected by a supernova explosion, sweeping up interstellar material as it expands. Remnants can be visible for tens of thousands of years; the Crab Nebula and Cassiopeia A are young, well-studied examples.
