S-Process and R-Process

The slow (s-process) and rapid (r-process) neutron-capture processes are the primary pathways for forming elements heavier than iron. The s-process occurs in AGB stars over long timescales; the r-process takes place in neutron-star mergers and core-collapse supernovae, where neutron fluxes are extreme.
