Precession

Precession is the slow change in the orientation of a rotating body's axis or orbital ellipse due to external torques. Earth's axial precession has a 26,000-year period, causing the celestial poles to trace circles; apsidal precession of planetary orbits is driven by gravitational perturbations from other planets.
