Gravitational Lensing

Gravitational lensing occurs when mass bends the path of light, creating distorted, magnified, or multiple images of background sources. Strong lensing produces arcs and Einstein rings; weak lensing causes subtle shape distortions used to map dark matter distributions across the universe.
