Bipolar Nebula

A bipolar nebula displays two symmetric lobes of gas extending in opposite directions from a central star. This hourglass or butterfly morphology arises when a dense equatorial torus channels outflowing gas into polar directions; the Butterfly Nebula (NGC 6302) is a striking example.
