Mirach

A red M-type star, Mirach displays the coolest surface temperatures represented among these bright stars, its strongly positive colour index of 1.576 confirming the deep reddish tint of the M class. It holds the Beta designation in Andromeda and lies about 197 light-years distant. Mirach reaches apparent magnitude 2.07, while its absolute magnitude of −1.84 marks it as an intrinsically luminous red giant whose true output far exceeds its unassuming place in Earth's sky. Positioned along the chain of stars that outlines the figure of Andromeda, it is one of the constellation's principal naked-eye markers, its ruddy colour readily distinguishing it from the hotter, whiter stars nearby.
