HIP 107 vs Zet Scl

The two occupy opposite ends of the spectral sequence: HIP 107 is an M-type star, Zet Scl is a B-type star. Both lie at a comparable distance from the Sun — 543 light-years for HIP 107 and 503 for Zet Scl. Apparent magnitudes of +5.04 and +5.53 place Zet Scl some 1.6 times brighter in the sky than HIP 107. Intrinsically the balance shifts: Zet Scl carries an absolute magnitude of −0.90 against −0.58 for HIP 107, making it about 1.3 times more luminous once distance is removed from the comparison.
