Tidal Heating

Tidal heating is the generation of heat inside a moon or planet due to friction from tidal flexing caused by the gravitational pull of a massive neighbor. On Jupiter's moon Io it drives intense volcanism; in exoplanet systems it can maintain liquid interiors on otherwise frozen worlds.
